ShowHopping tracks when your shows air and helps your household decide which streaming services to keep, pause or add. This policy explains what information the app uses to do that, and what we never do with it. The short version: we don't sell your information, we don't use an ad network, and we never keep the emails we read for receipts.
1. Who we are
ShowHopping is made by Wrights Apps, LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("we", "us"). This policy covers the ShowHopping apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, the website at showhopping.com, and the email address we give you for forwarding receipts.
2. What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name, email address and password | To create and sign in to your account. Your password is stored only as a secure hash; we can't see it. |
| Age confirmations | You confirm you are 13 or older to create an account, and 18 or older to connect an email account or set up receipt forwarding. We store that you confirmed, not your birth date. |
| Time zone | Your phone's time zone, to show air times in your local time and send notifications at a reasonable hour. |
| Your shows and viewing progress | The shows and movies you follow, the episodes you mark as watched, which service you watch each show on, and display settings such as hiding episode titles or showing reruns. |
| Your streaming subscriptions | The services you have, plan names, prices, billing dates, trial end dates, how you're billed (for example Apple, Google, Amazon or the service directly), and whether a service comes with your phone or internet plan. |
| Household membership | Which household you belong to and your role in it. If you invite someone, we keep the email address you invited so the invitation can reach them. |
| Connected email addresses | The address of each email account you connect, and your personal forwarding address, so you can see and manage them in the app. |
| Show requests | When you look up a show we don't have yet, we record what you searched for and who asked, so we can add the show and tell you when it's ready. |
| Device notification token | If you allow notifications, your phone gives us a token so we can send them. We also keep which notification types you've turned on or off. |
| Imported files | If you import a TV Time export, we read the file to match your shows and watched episodes, then delete the file. We keep the shows and episodes it finds. |
| Messages you send us | If you email support or report a wrong date, we keep the message so we can answer and fix the problem. |
We don't collect your contacts, photos, precise location, advertising identifier, or browsing activity outside the app.
3. Email receipts
Finding your subscriptions from receipts is optional, and requires you to be 18 or older. There are two ways to do it.
Connecting an email account
You can connect up to three accounts from each email provider we support: Gmail, and Yahoo and AOL Mail where available. When you connect one, your email provider asks you to give ShowHopping read-only access. We use that access only to search for receipts and billing emails from streaming services and the stores and companies that bill for them. We never send, change, delete or label your email, and we don't read your contacts or calendar.
Forwarding receipts
The app can give you a personal forwarding address at in.showhopping.com. Emails you forward there are read in the same way. If you set up automatic forwarding in your email account, we keep only the confirmation code or link from your email provider's confirmation message, so the app can help you finish setup.
What we keep, and what we don't
From each receipt we keep only: the service, the price, the date, the billing cycle, and who billed you (for example Apple, Google, Amazon or the service directly). We use the receipt to update your subscriptions list, such as the plan name, renewal date, trial end date, and whether the subscription is active, on a trial or canceled. We also keep a one-way fingerprint of the message so the same receipt isn't counted twice; it can't be turned back into the email.
The email itself, including its text, sender, subject and attachments, is never stored. It is read, the receipt details are pulled out, and the message is discarded.
To pull out those details, the sender, subject, date and text of matching emails are processed by our AI service provider, Anthropic, under terms that prohibit it from training its models on that content. A cancellation or trial email dated before you added a subscription yourself won't change that subscription.
Disconnecting
You can disconnect an email account in the app at any time. When you do, we delete our access token and ask your email provider to revoke ShowHopping's access. Receipt details already found stay in your account until you delete them or your account.
4. Google and Yahoo user data
Mail data from Yahoo and AOL accounts is used only for the receipt feature you turned on, is never sold or shared for advertising, profiling or tracking, and follows the same rules listed below for Gmail.
ShowHopping's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- We use Gmail data only to find your streaming subscriptions and show them to you in the app.
- We don't transfer Gmail data to others except as needed to provide that feature (our hosting and AI processing providers, acting for us), to comply with law, or as part of a merger or sale of the business with notice to you.
- We don't use Gmail data for advertising, and we don't sell it.
- No person at ShowHopping reads your email, unless you ask us to for support, it's needed for security or to comply with law, or the data has been made anonymous for internal operations.
- We don't use or keep Gmail data to develop, improve or train AI or machine learning models, and we don't allow our providers to do so.
- Your Gmail access token is encrypted when stored.
5. How we use your information
- To run the app: your calendar, your shows, your subscriptions, the monthly lineup and your savings.
- To send notifications you've turned on, such as new episodes, shows leaving a service, price changes, trials ending and your monthly lineup.
- To add shows people ask for and keep show schedules up to date.
- To suggest add-on prices from combined price reports, as described in Counts without names.
- To answer support requests and fix problems.
- To keep the service secure and prevent misuse.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising.
6. Households
Your information belongs to you, not to your household. Other members see what the app needs to share for the household features, such as the services the household pays for, duplicates between members, and the monthly lineup. If you leave a household, you take your shows, watched episodes, subscriptions found in your own email, savings history and settings with you. Nobody takes another member's information.
If a household's paid plan ends, nothing is deleted. Members and services beyond the free plan are paused and come back when the plan is renewed.
7. Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run ShowHopping. They process information only for us and only to provide their service:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosts our database, accounts and server code, in the United States. |
| Anthropic | AI processing that reads receipt emails to pull out subscription details; reads the file names, column names and up to three sample rows of each file in a TV Time export to work out its layout; and researches show schedules from public sources. Show research uses no personal information. Anthropic's terms prohibit it from training its models on what we send. |
| Gmail connection (if you choose it) and Firebase Cloud Messaging, which delivers notifications to Android and iPhone. | |
| Apple | Delivers notifications to iPhone and iPad, and handles App Store purchases. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website and receives emails sent to your forwarding address and passes them to our servers. |
| Zoho | Hosts our support email. |
| Streaming Availability (Movie of the Night) | Tells us which service a show is on. We send show titles only, never information about you. |
Paid plans are bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles your payment; we receive whether your subscription is active, not your card details. We may also use a subscription management provider to keep track of that status.
We may share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.
8. Counts without names
Features like the Top 10 and "what others watch" are built from counts, not people. Searches are counted without a user ID, and a show only appears in these lists once at least 20 people follow it. Nothing in them can point to one person.
Add-on prices work the same way. The price you enter for an add-on, or the price your receipts show for it (for example HBO Max through YouTube TV), is combined with other people's. The app suggests a price, labeled as what most members pay, only when at least 5 people have reported one in the last 120 days and most of them agree. Only the agreed price is shown, never who reported it or what any one person pays.
9. Promotions and sign-up links
ShowHopping doesn't use an ad network and doesn't track you across other apps or websites. Free users may see occasional promotions for other apps made by Wrights Apps, LLC. We count taps on those promotions without any user ID.
When the monthly lineup recommends adding a service, the "add" button may use that service's affiliate link, and we may earn a fee if you sign up. This is disclosed next to the link. No user or device ID is sent with these links, and fees never affect what the app recommends.
10. How long we keep it
- Your account information is kept while your account is open.
- Receipt emails are never kept. Receipt details are kept until you delete them or your account.
- Email access tokens are deleted when you disconnect, or when you delete your account.
- Notification tokens stop being used as soon as your device reports them as no longer valid.
- When you delete your account, we delete your personal information, except what we must keep to comply with law. Show requests and wrong-date reports you sent stay, with no link to you, so the show database stays correct. Copies in backups are removed as the backups expire.
11. Your choices
- Turn each kind of notification on or off in the app's settings, or turn notifications off for the app on your phone.
- Disconnect an email account at any time.
- See and edit your shows, subscriptions and settings in the app.
- Ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing support@showhopping.com from the email address on your account.
Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under your state's privacy law. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever they live, and we won't treat you differently for making one.
12. Security
Information is encrypted in transit. Email access tokens are encrypted when stored, and each person's information is protected by access rules so only they, and their household where the feature requires it, can see it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects it, as the law requires.
13. Children
You must be 13 or older to use ShowHopping, and 18 or older to connect an email account or forward receipts. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email us and we'll delete it.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your information, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
